Région Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes

With 7.9 million inhabitants, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes is the largest industrial region in France (500,000 jobs) and the second ranked region in terms of exports. Its economy is essentially service based, but there is also a strong industrial sector. Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes is the 8th richest region in Europe. Its gross domestic product, €239 billion in 2012, is comparable to that of Denmark and higher than that of Ireland, Portugal, Finland and Greece. The regional council is composed of 204 elected representatives and 15 Vice-Presidents. The region employs 6,400 staff in high schools and 2,000 in its administrative departments, working in fields such as health, culture, tourism, the environment, social action, solidarity, transport, training and employment, research and innovation, and education.
