Winfried Hermann has been a member of the party Bündnis 90/Die Grünen since 1982. Two years later his political work began; he was a member of the state parliament focusing on the key areas of schools, youth and sport. This was followed by a further career milestone as department manager at the adult education centre in Stuttgart. From 1992 to 1997 Hermann was state chairman of Bündnis 90/Die Grünen in Baden-Württemberg and from 1998 onwards he had a seat for thirteen years as a member of the German Bundestag. The focal areas of his work in Berlin were the environment, sustainable development, transport and sport. Since 12 May 2011 Winfried Hermann has been Minister of Transport in Baden-Württemberg.
